2. Write the opening to the short story by following the two steps below.
Step 1: Brainstorming and planning using six question words The opening of a short story should include an introduction to setting, character and action. There should also be a hook for the reader, drawing them in to read more. Brainstorming your answers to the following six questions will help you to plan the setting, character, action and hook for your story: Who? Where? What? Why? When? and How? Take five minutes to respond to the following questions based on the photograph and write down your ideas. Who? Who might the figures in the picture be? Are they boys or girls? Are they related to one another? Where? It is clear that they are gathered at the end of a football pitch, but where is that? Is it in a housing estate or a local club? What? What are they talking about? What might they be planning? What big event in the past or future might they be discussing?
