Paediatric AIM training
We have introduced a simulated training event for all clinical staff who come into contact with children, whether that be in our emergency departments, theatres, criti cal care, or paediatric wards.
More than 100 staff have taken part in a Paediatric Acute Illness Management course since it was introduced last year, with att endees including nurses, physiotherapists and doctors. Staff have reported that they have increased confi dence when dealing with children as a result of the training, while for other people, it has provided formal reinforcement that they are providing the right care.
Helen Frizell, Lead Educator for Child Health, said: “Children deteriorate in a diff erent way to adults. You get warning signs but then things get worse very quickly. What we do is to ensure staff are in a positi on to recognise the early signs, so the rapid deteriorati on does not happen or is miti gated.”
“I would recommend the Paediatric AIM course. It was really benefi cial and gave me more confi dence when assessing and managing sick children.”
