Supporti ng our students
During the last year, student nurses and midwives completed a total of 654 placements in our hospitals.
Our students are from universiti es in Surrey, Southampton, Bournemouth and The Open University. Many of the newly-qualifi ed and return to practi ce graduates from last year’s cohort decided to start their careers with the Trust.
We celebrated their graduati on from student to newly-qualifi ed staff with a ceremony where they were presented with a hospital badge, which they will wear with pride on their uniform for the rest of their career to show where they trained.
Amy Foster won The Taverner Award for the excepti onal Student Nurse of the Year. She was nominated by a pati ent, who said: “She is kind, pati ent and helpful. She makes you feel like you are the only pati ent in the department.”
Paediatric Ward Sister Alison Tait was named nursing Mentor of the Year.
Trudy Balfe won the Midwife Mentor of the Year award, with students saying: “I immediately knew that I wanted to be a midwife like her” and “I can only hope that this midwife is one day my midwife.”
