Section A Map skills (25 marks) 1.1 A grid map is a picture divided into little blocks, where every block gets a number and a letter so that we can identify a specific place on the map by referring to the number and the letter.
1.2 A compass as an instrument which always points north, and therefore can be used to find a position.
1.3 The line on a map between the land and the sea 2 north, south, east ,west
3 The provincial capital is the village or city in which the leader of the province works.

4 A side view is when an object was sketched from the side and a plan view is when an object was sketched from the top so that we get an overview. (2)
5 The learner must draw a plan view of the classroom. Allocate marks for: furniture;
other learners; teacher; position of teacher, door window symbols key.
6 Symbols are simple pictures or letters which represent an object, place or building on the map. It is often difficult to draw a map when there are many different kinds of buildings or services in the area,
and symbols then help to simplify the task. Symbols are small, therefore we can indicate many things on a map when we make use of symbols.
