Unit introduction


• When we look at the same object from two different perspectives (or views), we will see that it looks totally different.


• Side views are views from the side of the object and it is clear to see what it is. However, when we look at the same object from above (a plan view), it is not always clear what it will be. For example, a tin will only be a circle and will not look any different from the plan view of a ball.


Teaching ideas and tips


The purpose of the unit is to introduce the idea that a map shows us a view from above (or plan view). We start with looking at simple objects from above – often the plan views will be quite a surprise for learners. Look at the examples in the text book and then look at other objects in the classroom
