Activity 8 Explain how to get from one place to another Learner’s Book page 16

This activity gives learners the opportunity to match up a description with a drawing of a route.

Teaching guidelines

• Look at the drawing of the route together in class. • Make sure the learners understand what they must do. • Learners must copy and complete the description in their notebooks. • Go through the answers in class and let learners mark their own work.

Suggested answers

Outside school turn right and walk along Church Street. At the big church on the corner turn left into Main Street. Walk straight along this road and take the second turning to the left. This is Keurboom Street. The library is on the right just past the big tree.

Remedial activity

This could be a good preparation for the formal assessment task to follow. Get learners to choose a very simple route such as from one classroom to another or from the front entrance to the office. They must describe and draw the route.

Suggested answers Learners’ responses will vary. Accept all correct, relevant answers.

• Use this activity as a stepping stone for the formal assessment task coming up in Activity 9.
