Glasgow, UK — Future Technology Devices International, a developer of silicon chips and solu- tions, has introduced its FT260 HID class interface controller IC, which provides a USB 2.0 full speed (12Mb/s) connection. The single-chip solution is designed to connect touchscreens, computer peripherals, IoT sensing apparatus, as well as to provide USB interfacing for microcontrollers or programmable logic-centric systems. Supplied in compact 28-pin SSOP and 28-pin
QFN packages, the USB bridge chips have dual- HID interface support and I2C and UART bus con- version capabilities. The FT260 offers engineers a plug-and-play solution that is simple to incorpo- rate into contemporary embedded system designs. The ICs employ standard class drivers, which makes it unnecessary to install complex vendor- specific drivers. The chips have I/Os that are com- patible with 1.8V and 3.3V systems. During full
Hexagon Manufacturing Launches Portable 3D
Scanner North Kingstown, RI — Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, a metro - logy and manufacturing solutions spe- cialist, has launched its Leica Abso - lute Scanner LAS-20-8. The device is a portable laser scanner for large vol- ume inspection applications such as automotive sheet metal, aerospace mold tools and large industrial cas- ings. It works in tandem with the Leica Absolute Tracker AT960 and allows users to capture complex point- cloud data quickly and easily. The scanner has been enhanced
to offer better performance for manu- al freeform inspections on intricate workpieces, even those with dark or shiny metallic surfaces. The device is easy to use and automatically adjusts its laser intensity for differ- ent types of surfaces, which dramati- cally reduces the training required to operate it. Lightweight and ergonomic, the
LAS-20-8 is suitable for portable metrology applications that require effective measurement volumes up to 196.85ft (60m). The scanner has an IP50 rating and a convenient battery power option, which allow it to be used anywhere on the factory floor or in the field. The scanner synchronizes with the laser tracker to enable fast transitions between scanning, prob- ing and reflector measurements. Newly integrated haptic technology adds another level of user feedback during use, along with audio and visu- al guidance. Using the main trigger button of the scanner, the user can select preset measurement profiles, which include an 8in-wide (20.3cm) scan line for the maximum coverage of large surfaces or a smaller scan line with up to 13µ point spacing for small and complex surfaces. The scanner also uses the same
software interface as the company’s ROMER Absolute Arm product line, which allows operators to easily adapt the device to their existing
processes. Contact: Hexagon

operation, only 24mA of current is drawn, which drops to only 385µA when in suspend mode. According to the company, the FT260 is the
first device of its kind to be compliant with the HID-over-I2C protocol as specified by Microsoft
with the release of Windows 8. A total of four different speed modes may be
used while in I2C bus — standard mode (SM), fast mode (FM), fast mode plus (FM+), and high speed (HS), and each supports seven-bit addressing. Their integrated memory enables storage of cus- tomized USB descriptors. The built-in oscillator PLL eliminates the need for an external crystal, which saves space and lowers bill of materials costs.
In addition, the FT260 includes a USB bat-
tery charger mechanism. The company plans to back up the IC with a series of board-level prod- ucts.
