Emotion By Carolyn Giardina
Four eFF Audio file analysis applications from Emotion Systems have been licensed at the LAB, the in- house post production facility for ad agency
Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO. According to Sam Johnson, senior production engineer at AMV BBDO, “We play out hundreds of commercials each year and use eFF Audio as the ‘second pair of eyes’ in our rigorous QC process. It is
Monitoring advances
Eyeheight By Michael Burns
Eyeheight is introducing its AD-2EM audio descriptor, which enables broadcasters of high definition television programmes to monitor pre- encoded data containing audio and pan/fade information.
Designed for use in master
control rooms and playout suites, the AD-2EM decodes audio description and control data from audio embedded in the HD-SDI transport stream. It generates an in-vision
display of audio level, fade and pan information. A status bar shows audio description errors such as swapped or inverted data. This display can be hidden and locked for automatic on-air use by audio description decoders. A mix of audio description and programme audio is provided on embedded group 1, channels 3 and 4, with correct pan and fade response. Raw programme audio is
embedded on channels 3 and 4 in the absence of a valid audio descriptor control track. In-vision error reporting is also provided. 8.B97
very useful to have an automated and highly accurate final check to ensure that nothing has been missed.”
eFF Audio is also capable of analysing and rectifying audio loudness compliance issues. “At the moment, we are not using eFF Audio’s
loudness compliance capabilities, but we know it’s an issue that broadcasters will need to address,” Johnson added. “That’s why we invested in eFF. As a facility, we’re not interested in any hardware or software that does not offer the future-proof features that our clients will need, whether we use them straight away or not.” 6.C28b

MX recorder ships The multichannel recorder Cinedeck MX is getting its worldwide debut on the Oxygen DCT stand. Cinedeck MX is a rack-mountable, solid-state recording, monitoring and playback system designed to deliver codec versatility and file- based performance, says the developer.
Among the first customers for Cinedeck MX are NBC Universal and All Mobile Video, which is equipping its OB fleet with multiple Cinedeck MX systems. Eric Duke, CEO of AMV in New York, explained how the new Cinedeck MX has replaced the traditional tapedeck. “It’s a real opportunity to revolutionise the workflow from capture into post production,” said Duke. “Our clients are excited about the cost savings we can pass on to them, and the new workflow options available to them.” 10.B44

Digital TV Labs By Heather McLean
The Ligada iSuite test harness from Digital TV Labs offers full support for the official release of the HbbTV Test Suite, says the developer. The company is offering manufacturers a 30- day free trial.
Digital TV Labs has been closely involved with the development of the official HbbTV Test Suite against the v1.1 specification from within the HbbTV Consortium. However, the HbbTV Consortium is a standards body and does not enforce a certification regime,
the company points out. Compliance with the
specification is verified by use of the official HbbTV test suite, which can be acquired directly by manufacturers. “Receiver manufacturers need to decide the most efficient and cost-effective way to guarantee HbbTV compliance,” said Keith Potter, Digital TV Labs CEO. “In order to be able to run the test suites, users require a specialised test harness. Ligada iSuite incorporates a fully automated test harness that supports the official HbbTV 1.1 test suite and now covers the new 1.5 specification.” 2.C30
EVS has unveiled an open workflow collaboration with Adobe, integrating Premiere Pro Creative Suite 6 software with EVS XT/XS high-speed production servers. This will enable users to exchange media recorded on EVS servers and send Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 edits back for instant playout. Using OP1a MXF or QuickTime Movies file exchange format, Adobe Premiere Pro users will be able to edit content while it’s being transferred as a background task via EVS’ XT/XS media production servers.
shared workflows Data Direct Networks is demonstrating several workflow technologies that underscore a focus on cloud security and shared projects.
Since EVS servers already support codecs used by Adobe Premiere Pro, it means that files can now be directly transferred without encoding and decoding, saving time and preserving image quality. Serge Comes, media
product manager at EVS, said the collaboration is a direct response to an increasing demand by broadcasters and programme makers for faster turnaround TV productions. “This initiative will help
increase the productivity and efficiency of our users in satisfying this demand,” said Comes. “This collaboration will not only help widen our potential customer base, but will also give the market greater choice.” 8.B90

The potential benefits of cloud storage have been widely discussed, but issues of security, speed, cost and integration have presented obstacles. DDN says the latest version of WOS (Web Object Scaler) will address these problems by offering connectivity options for private, secure cloud storage that operates at LAN speeds. This
connectivity also enables cloud storage to be integrated into media workflows. 7.C30
