theibcdaily Next-gen conversion Snell By Michael Burns

Appearing in Europe for the first time on the Snell stand is the new signal-processing platform, KudosPro. Boasting a processing density of up to four channels of conversion in 1U, the KudosPro offers high- quality framerate and format

conversions at a price point which Snell describes as ‘extremely attractive’. Snell is also demonstrating the improved Alchemist Ph.C- HD motion-compensated standards converter for file- based workflows. KudosPro performs 3Gbps, HD, and SD standards conversion (framerate conversion), as well as up-,

ALT-1 mic amp updated

BCD Audio By Monica Heck

A new version of BCD Audio’s ALT-1 stand-alone microphone amplifier is being introduced on the Canford stand this year: the ALT-1D.

Mike Law, CEO of BCD Audio, explained that increased manufacturing costs and the switch to surface mount production has made a replacement unit essential, but that all of the

original features of the ALT-1 were maintained with some carefully thought out extensions. The new version

retains the front panel switching and LED indicators for compressor/limiter and AGC, along with mic input on balanced XLR with switchable phantom power. Line output on balanced XLR is also retained and now includes fault protection. The DC inlet is

down-, and cross-conversion. The company claims the KudosPro platform thus offers a cost-effective range of converters to suit all applications including international programme exchange, and content repurposing for internet, TV, and Blu-ray distribution, as well as high-density teleport and satellite distribution.

SIS strikes with BT SIS Live By Ian McMurray

A recently announced five year agreement will see BT Media & Broadcast provide SIS Live with an MPLS-based fibre network to support what the company says is its rapid growth in broadcast solutions. The strategic partnership will enable the two companies to make use of each other’s infrastructure and so expand their presence in the fibre and satellite service markets.

As part of the deal, SIS Live will become preferred reseller of the BT Broadcast Fibre and Media Network. This network will also connect the main SIS Live headquarters in Milton Keynes and MediaCityUK, Salford with BT Tower and resilient connectivity directly to strategically important locations around the UK, which includes major UK broadcasters. The network also incorporates 158 BT Fibre ingest points, which cover most major sporting and cultural venues in the UK, including all Premiership and Championship football grounds, Elstree Studios, Echo Arena in Liverpool, the O2 in London, the Oval Cricket Ground and many more.

“SIS Live has a compelling satellite based events business, and we have a great fibre solution,” said Mark Wilson-Dunn, VP of global

sales and marketing for BT Media and Broadcast. “Bringing the two of us together means that

customers can blend the best of both worlds in order to service their clients in the most flexible and effective way.”

it sold around 4000 units to date.

unique feature of the product, which when pressed would retain the correct audio gain required for that user. The compressor/limiter/AGC system would then maintain the correct level. The remoteable ‘take’ switch allows the unit to be controlled from a news control system. Since then, further applications have appeared and units are installed in news and weather booths, direct to PC recording, unattended studios and emergency microphone use in main TV news studios. 9.C01
