theibcdaily O&M and IBM partner
Conference Analysis By Kate Bulkley
Ogilvy & Mather and IBM have announced a new partnership at IBC to leverage IBM’s technology solutions with the brand and advertising savvy of Ogilvy. O&M’s Worldwide Chairman and CEO, Miles Young, and IBM’s Vice President of corporate marketing, John Kennedy, unveiled the 50/50 partnership on stage during a Keynote on ‘How the Medium and the Message are Adapting to the New Digital World’. “Ogilvy has an e-commerce business and IBM offers e-commerce products so it seemed a natural partnership,” Young told The IBC Daily. “IBM as a technology company and us as a creative company are finding ourselves increasingly prospecting the same C-suite
to UPS to IBM are offering “marketing that is a service”. O&M says the new partnership will help build Ogilvy’s e-commerce business to exceed $100 million over the next few years. For IBM the new alliance will offer access to more potential clients.

leaders, so this will allow us to do that jointly.”
The partnership is leveraging shifts in the marketing and branding landscape where brands from American Express
result of the big changes in the marketing and advertising space brought about by digital technology that means a chief marketing officer and a chief technology officer have to work hand-in-hand to reach customers with creative messages that are social and provide engaging experiences, not simply a sales pitch. “TV is absolutely not dead. It is at the heart of everything we do — but there is a transformation of TV where it becomes another touch point where marketers will engage,” said Young.
Buddy takes Awards: The IABM has judged Timecode Buddy from Timecode Systems as the top entry for the 2012 Awards for Design and Innovation. The judges awarded Timecode Buddy the IABM Peter Wayne Award, as well as an IABM Award for Excellence. “The Timecode Buddy is as an elegant solution to a real-world problem experienced daily by users around the world,” said IABM Director General Peter White. Each of the four other finalists – Canon, Civolution, Glensound Electronics and Sony – has earned an IABM Award for Excellence. All awards were presented at the IABM’s awards reception last night. IBC awards design: The graphics on the Marvell Semiconductors stand (5.A12) “lead to a wow feeling”, according to the judges of exhibition design stand awards. They gave it the award for the most imaginative use of shell scheme space. LogicKeyboard was highly commended in the category. For smaller free design stands the judges highly commended two audio companies: DPA Microphones and DTS. The winner, though, was Netgem (5.B45) for its “open, welcoming living room and optimised use of space”. For the larger stands, over 100 square metres, Vimond Media Solutions was highly commended for its very original design, but the judges gave the award to SES (1.B51). They liked its futuristic feel and its “fun, interactive area with high quality visual impact”. The trophies will be presented as part of the IBC
Awards Ceremony, tonight at 18.30 in the Auditorium. The ceremony is free to all visitors.

The IBC Conference Committee yesterday recognised the huge contributions from two great stalwarts yesterday when Professor David Crawford (centre) made special presentations to Ulrich Reimers (right) and David Wood (left).
Reimers, VP of Braunschweig University, chaired the DVB technical module from 2003 until Nick Wells took over in June. Wood joined the EBU in 1980 and presented his first IBC paper in 1981. He joined the IBC Conference Committee in 1983. “Both men brought top speakers and great ideas to the IBC in equal measure,” said Crawford. “It has been vital for IBC to be able to rely on the industry forums and associations. Through the DVB and EBU, Crawford and Reimers supplied high quality presentations on a long series of new technologies.”
