Selenio chassis Harris has added a networking module to its Selenio media convergence platform. This enables broadcasters and telcos to use circuit-switched transport networks to transmit and receive video, audio and corporate data between two Selenio chassis. The company claims this bridges the gap between legacy and IP networks in a space and power efficient footprint. Applications are likely to include bringing mobile contributions in from stadiums and remote events, and networking multiple locations together. The module supports a wide variety of telecom interfaces and can support as many as 240 video channels. As well as audio and video I/O the Selenio module also supports enterprise ethernet traffic. This eliminates the need to set up a separate link for IP data between the remote broadcast location and the studio. 7.G20

with big potential Making its debut at IBC, Miranda’s new Nvision 8140 provides all of the advanced features of an enterprise class router in a 144x288 matrix, contained in 8RU. It features redundant power supplies, control cards and crosspoints in this compact form factor. The company said it was thus ideal for mobile production suites, smaller studios and power-constrained environments. 8.D41

According to SatService, the sat-nms LFOC Optical Link Outdoor Cabinet provides a safe environmental home for 10 or 20 sat-nms LFTX and LFRX modules, which can be used in this outdoor application as well as in the existing indoor 19-in rack mount chassis. The cabinet can be equipped with optical converters only, or alternatively it can also include other satellite ground station-specific equipment such as the sat-nms IO-FEP M&C frontend processor or Ethernet switches. 1.F47

Capturing viewers with second screen

Tying the second to the first screen experience is the latest focus, explains Michael Wellesley-Wesley, president and CEO, Chyron

Recent polls reveal that 88% of TV viewers use a second screen – a smartphone, tablet, or laptop – while watching; 70% of those second screen users use email and social networks; and 38% of second screen users access content relevant to what they are watching on TV. In light of the shifting

broadcast landscape and demand for social television and second screen solutions, Chyron’s newest focus includes developing applications to help broadcasters tie the second screen experience to the first screen experience and, in turn, to capture viewers’ attention, enrich the viewing experience, and drive advertising revenue. The IBC2012 show provides an optimal venue in which to introduce our social TV and second screen solutions to the European market. Making its debut is Shout , our stand-alone software application that enables broadcasters to bring social media commentary into their live broadcasts quickly and easily. Shout gives one or more users the ability to monitor, select, adjust, and route social media conversations to broadcast graphics systems either for on-air playback or for storage as data files for later use. Multiple instances of Shout running across a facility can be used simultaneously by different staff members to view content and moderate the same playback list.

Opinion Shout users can add,

remove, and authenticate multiple social media accounts from sources such as Twitter, Facebook, RSS, and Mass Relevance, each of which has its own playback controller, playback-style settings, and filters, as well as an automated find-and-replace feature that defines words and phrases that will be automatically replaced with new text.

Also making its European debut is our new Engage second screen and social TV platform. Engage offers broadcasters the ability to add viewer interactivity such as votes, polls, and tweet battles into their live news and sports programming, along with rich call-to-action graphics and infographics. Engage integrates with popular second screen and social data partners, eliminating the need for custom integration while maintaining routine production workflows. Engage gives producers easy-to-use tools that allow for the instant creation of interactions that can dynamically boost audience engagement.

Our BlueNet workflow suite is on display at IBC2012, as well, and we’re featuring a plug-in that makes the functionality of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6

software available within Chyron graphics workflows. Integrated into the BlueNet workflow suite, this plugin allows Internet- connected staff and freelance editors working anywhere to modify, import, and render graphics within an Adobe Premiere Pro timeline. In addition to facilitating compliance with standard branding while maintaining MOS newsroom support, this integrated solution brings
