theibcdaily New look and more for Galaxy

Dalet Digital Media Systems

By Michael Burns

Dalet Galaxy, the latest version of Dalet’s enterprise Media Asset Management (MAM) platform, is being showcased in Hall 8. Dalet Galaxy includes a BPMN 2.0-compliant workflow engine that has been specially tailored to media workflows, advanced tools for searching and indexing and expanded support for new standards such as AS-02 and FIMS. Additional new features include

Dalet One Cut, a realtime, multitrack video and audio editing platform, aimed at multimedia journalists and content prep operators. Also new is Dalet Xtend, a module that provides for exchanges of videos, shot lists, EDLs and their metadata between NLEs and the Dalet MAM.

It is now available for Avid Media Composer and Avid NewsCutter in addition to Apple Final Cut Pro and will shortly be available for Adobe Premiere editing systems. In addition, Dalet Galaxy now features a revamped graphical user interface, completely updated to

meet modern usability standards, that will provide a consistent look across all applications. According to Dalet, the new BPM workflow engine meets specific workflow needs of broadcasters and media companies and makes all of the

operational and business processes fully

visible. Managers can see the workflow in total as well as at the granular level.

They can monitor the internal

progress of each workflow step and pinpoint the status of

Workshop addresses WiMAX problem

APT Satellite Co By Ian McMurray

At the beginning of the summer, a workshop on the subject of WiMAX interference problems faced by the satellite TV reception community in Bangladesh was hosted by APT Satellite Company in Dhaka. The national telecom authority BTRC (Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Committee) attended the workshop as main guests, together with over 115 representatives from local

cable operators, satellite TV channels.

Since its introduction to Bangladesh in 2007, APT says that WiMAX has been causing significant degradation or even service outage to satellite TV reception in the major cities. A recent case occurred to Maasranga TV and, after BTRC had removed one WiMAX transmitter located nearby the satellite dish, the “scrambled/weak signal” problem was immediately solved.

In the speech given by Mr.

A.T.M. Monirul Alam, the BTRC commissioner

acknowledged the severity of the interference problem, and agreed to continue the effort to minimise the impact caused to the Bangladeshi satellite community through regulatory means. In its presentation, APT Satellite analysed the result of several field tests it had conducted in Dhaka. It showed that, in all three test sites, powerful influx of the WiMAX signal had driven the LNB/LNA (a highly sensitive component in the satellite receiving system) to saturation, an operating mode that renders lower

quest: A newly revamped GUI streamlines access to the new tools

assets in the workflow so priorities and tasks can be adjusted and reassigned to ensure that deadlines are met. The BPM workflow engine includes easy-to-use tools for designing and modelling workflows, and for orchestrating human tasks as well as automated processes such as transcoding or file transfers. It’s also possible to create contextual To Do lists, which Dalet claimed would simplify the workflow for operators and ensure compliance to established procedures. 8.B77

the operating point by 8.4dB, and consequently improve the TV reception margin by 1.6 dB. 5.B12

Flip and Flux By Carolyn Giardina

FilmLight is now shipping two new technologies: Flip, a portable colour grading device; and Flux, a server.

Flux is an expandable 80TB

post production server with data and metadata management tools. Flip is a device designed so that filmmakers can begin grading as early as preproduction and on or near set; grading information can be transferred between Flip and FilmLights flagship colour grading system, Baselight. Also on the FilmLight stand

are Baselight 4.3, the latest version of its colour grading system; Blackboard 2, a Baselight control surface; and Baselight Transfer, a realtime, 4k dailies processing system. Also showing is Baselight Editions, which are colour grading plug- ins for Avid Media Composer, Apple Final Cut Pro and The Foundry’s Nuke. 7.F31
