Bryant Unlimited is launching a fully UK-manufactured economic, eco-friendly, energy saving power distribution unit at IBC, which it described as a significant development in days of high energy costs and 24/7 operation.
The PDU 114PEA has a
micro-controller based design to reduce energy otherwise
wasted within the PDU. The PDU 114PEA features 14 IEC outlets, each with an associated bi-colour LED to show outlet status. A dedicated bespoke power supply is used to reduce the power consumption of the LED circuit to less than 0.5W, whereas typical products fitted with mains LEDS consume 10W according to Bryant. Bryant’s Technical Manager Simon Quill explained that the PDU 114PEA includes a custom micro-controller to
measure the presence of mains voltage on each outlet. “Only then is the corresponding LED set to green,” he continued. “Each unit is fitted with a piezo sounder which can be enabled to give an audible warning when a fuse fails. The sound generated, its irritation factor and the length of time it will sound are all programmable from the front panel pre installation.”
The new PDUs are available in two versions, the PDU
SAMN is key to providing 100% QoS
Net Insight By Ian McMurray
Claiming that they are critical features required to handle the full scope of today’s and tomorrow’s services, exhibitor Net Insight is highlighting its service pre-emption functionality which now offers enhanced scalability, improved dynamics and
includes support for floor capacity to prevent starvation.
Net Insight says that its
approach to dynamic bandwidth allocation and service pre-emption is unique as it allows data services to fill any unused capacity on the network links while ensuring higher priority video and data services can pre-empt any lower priority services.
However, the dynamic pre- emption mechanisms still preserves the fundamental Nimbra property of allowing the same priority video services to never affect each other, and, guaranteeing a capacity threshold for particular data services to avoid the starvation of lower priority services.
It thus gives another level of service control while lowering the complexity of

traffic engineering of IP media networks. With service pre-emption, the combination of current high quality video services with new data and file services provides bandwidth utilisation and on-demand capabilities over a single infrastructure.
The company believes that its Service Aware Media Network (SAMN) architecture enables true media awareness, the key to providing 100% QoS. Unlike competing

technologies that group services together, making it difficult to predict which existing services will be affected as new ones are established or rerouted, the SAMN allows operators to provision, monitor and protect (service-centric network management) each service individually on demand, on an end-to-end basis to ensure service integrity is upheld throughout the delivery process. 1.B40
