For Government Legal Service lawyers who have been trained in competency based interviewing techniques, but whose training was two or more years ago.This one-day programme is designed to meet the Civil Service Commissioners’ recommendations for regular refresher training for all those involved in recruitment and selection. It will give you the opportunity to consider your recruitment practice and interview techniques, and to update your skills and correct any bad habits.

Personal Effectiveness in Management for Lawyers
For lawyers who line manage other lawyers

LEGISLATION
We have a number of programmes for lawyers about primary and secondary legislation, a cornerstone of practice for advisory lawyers within government. Each is designed and delivered with a view to training government lawyers in the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to perform successfully in these areas.
Overview of Legislation
The programme provides an introduction to the law and procedure governing primary and subordinate legislation and the roles of government lawyers and other officials in the legislative process.

Practical work is based on a recent Bill. It will be assumed that you have the knowledge covered in the Overview of Legislation (ILGL).

Drafting Statutory Instruments
For lawyers with little experience of drafting Statutory Instruments (SI) who are currently or will soon be required to do so. This programme is designed to enable you to practise and improve your drafting skills and equip you to give advice in relation to the Parliamentary scrutiny of Statutory Instruments. Practical exercises focus on the importance of correct form and adherence to current best practice. The knowledge covered in the Overview of Legislation (ILGL) will be assumed.
