Tech-Etch: Photo Etching Flat Parts from Polyimide Film
Plymouth, MA — Polyimide film is now available from Tech-Etch photo- etched into flat parts that include non-conductive washers, screens, gas- kets, insulation layers and liners, as well as haptics for intraocular lenses used in cataract surgery. Polyimide has material charac-
teristics that make it attractive for this medical procedure, in addition to providing the advantages of a three-piece IOL.
Optimal for foldable IOL
silicone or acrylic lenses, poly- imide offers flexibility compa- rable to polypropylene and PMMA haptics, with great er tensile strength and superior shape memory. Since poly- imide is safe for im plant, its shape retention spring proper- ties make it useful for addi- tional medical applications. Photo etching offers low
tooling costs, fast turnarounds and allows rapid design changes. It also enables etched bend lines on the part for 3D forming. Parts are commonly made from 0.001, 0.002, 0.003, and 0.005 in. (0.0254, 0.0508, 0.762, and
0.127 mm) Dupont KAPTON® or other polyimide films. Polyimide’s material characteristics make it especially suit- able for corrosive environments. It also exhibits excellent physical, chem- ical and electrical properties over a wide temperature range. Tech-Etch offers complete prototype to produc- tion facilities for etching extremely
TQC: Oven Temperature Logger for Powder Coating
Metamora, MI — TQC has intro- duced its fourth generation of data loggers for the finishing industry. The CurveX includes a large touchscreen allowing the user to operate the logger while also eval- uating test results on-site. Valuable information such as cure index, maximum temperature and a complete graph are present- ed. Up to ten batches can be stored and evaluated right on the instrument without needing to download the data to a computer. The touchscreen also allows the user to create and edit paint types, change logging intervals, program start/ stop triggers, and configure the memory. A standard USB port is used

to download data to a computer or to a USB flash drive, and also to charge the internal battery. To eval- uate the data, each CurveX system is supplied with Ideal Finish Analysis — a powerful software program that is dedicated to QC processes in the coating industry. Successful powder coating
depends on the curing process. Defects such as discoloration, poor
