Thrive @ Matravers (continued) What to do if.... I have a concern over mental health?

Mental health is an increasing issue with children and young adults. Luckily, the diagnosis and treatment for mental health issues are becoming easier and increasingly more available.

If you have any concerns your options are: 1: Book an appointment to see your GP. 2: Speak to a member of the pastoral team at the school. As a Thrive Hub we have access to a specialist mental health nurse and run a variety of supportive activities, including peer mentoring, online counselling, bespoke focus groups and one to one support.

Our new Peer Mentoring scheme is up and running offers support to all students. Our amazing 6th Form team of mentors have undergone over 3 hours of intensive training to prepare them in supporting their fellow students.

Look out for our Parent+ sessions, focused evenings aimed at helping parents support their children.

Substance Abuse and “Legal highs”

Keeping children safe is a responsibility…that starts with you at home. Unless educated and informed children may take unnecessary risks or make bad choices. Substance abuse, which includes all alcohol and nicotine, can have lasting effects on children and young adults. In recognising this the government has changed

the law to make the selling and taking of psychoactive substances illegal.

Primarily, the responsibility lies with parents to know exactly where their child is and make decision, which will keep the child safe, even if it may cause conflict at home. If there are concerns over substance abuse there are agencies and material out there for support.

For more information on psychoactive substances visit http://www.talktofrank.com/drug/new-psychoactive-substances

Motiv8 is agency we work closely with to support young adults. Please contact us if you would like more information.

Matravers is dedicated to supporting all its students and the learning community. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns. Students can always speak to a trusted adult within the school.
