LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE WORLD BOOK DAY

Matravers once again celebrated World Book day in style. Lots of the staff and even some of the students got into the spirit of the day, with some fantastic costumes.

The theme for staff was Heroes and Villains, so we had a wide variety of costumes on show. The Science department hit the bullseye dressed as characters from The Hunger Games. Meanwhile everyone followed the yellow brick road to P.E who dressed up as characters from the Frank.L.Baum novel, The Wizard of Oz. English dressed as the heroes and villains from Holes and Mrs Byrne was Mary Poppins. In the MFL department a few students got a shock as Mrs Anderson was dressed as the very scary The Woman in Black

We also had lots of other fab costumes, such as Tris from the Divergent Trilogy and a couple of Hermione Grangers too. Well done to everyone who dressed-up.

We also had competition to win a £10 book voucher. Mrs Gray set the challenge of asking students to guess which heroes and villains had said which famous quotes. Elspeth Whatley, Jessica Morris and Emma Gard got the most correct and so for their joint efforts they won a £5 book voucher each.

TEA READ

Another afternoon Tea Read also took place in January with a Winter theme. Once again this was a lovely opportunity for students and parents to read together and enjoy some refreshments too.

We have plenty of other events too look forward to. Matravers is being visited by the fantastic author Joffre White on the 10th May. This will be a fantastic opportunity for the students to meet a published author.

Annie Bell won the costume competition dressed as Verruca Salt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Grace Hime, Beth Smith and Sam Veall as runners-up.
