TEAMBATH NETBALL REWARDS TRIP

KS3 girls once again qualified for the County Final for the 4th consecutive year, where they once again came up against some tough opponents. Unlike last year, where most of the team had reached this stage before, all of the girls were making their debut at county level. Most of the team was made up of girls from Year 7 and 8 giving them invaluable experience, ready for next year. Sammy Kirk and Lauren O’Connor demonstrated their versatility to any sport with great performances against teams that play regularly at national level.

On Monday 20th March, the PE department headed to Bath with 25 Matravers Netballers. After a late afternoon of enjoying what Bath City Centre has to offer, we headed up to the University of Bath Sports Training Village. On arrival, we were met with a sea of blue and gold and an excited sold out crowd to see some of the Country’s best Netballers take on Surrey Storm. The girls enjoyed a fast-paced warm-up with drills that they are now taking into their own training and matches. The game began and the Netballers on court showed the game at its best with high-paced passing, demonstrating strong movement on and off the court in order to generate space and excellent Netballing tactics. Unfortunately, the score line did not go in our home teams favour but it was clear that the greatest winner of the night was Netball with all the girls feeling inspired. At the end of the game, the students got a chance to meet their new role models for autographs and selfies. The bus journey back was loud with Netball chat discussing key skills and tactics that could be applied to our game and methods of training that would improve the students’ strength and conditioning for Netball. We hope to run another successful trip to TeamBath soon!

U15 NETBALL REGIONAL STATE SCHOOL TOURNAMENT

The U15 girls (7 Year 10 students and 2 Year 9 students) headed to Blandford, Dorset for the Regional State School Tournament. This was the first time the school has entered this competition and we were only one of two schools from Wiltshire to enter. We were walking into the unknown and it was always going to be a challenge. We faced four schools in our ‘pool’, which were all strong Dorset squads. The Matravers girls showed great resilience and camaraderie throughout the tournament, keeping their heads up
