YEAR 9 OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Outdoor Education & CCF (continued) DUKE OF

Year 9 OE have been asking us to deliver more outdoor based activities during this terms and no one could ever complain about enthusiastic students!

Thankfully this works alongside our structure of delivery with the class being taught in the school copse working on water retrieval methods. They were tasked with researching methods to use in lesson and we received some fantastic pieces of research to mark. Some of the students demonstrated a creative approach to the lessons too, some experimented with alternative methods and to their credit these systems did work. It was great to observe them working creatively and cooperating to achieve their goals during these lessons.

The class also undertook our orienteering challenge onsite, we developed the mapped system towards the last school year. This was designed to ensure that our navigation lessons could be practical alongside the accuracy we achieve in the classroom. Working in

EDINBURGH’S AWARD

We have received sad news that Wiltshire Council will no longer be a licence holder of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and whilst our students have not fully utilised this service, we feel that this award is worth offering to our students, therefore we are taking steps to make sure our students have access to Bronze, Silver and Gold awards to contribute to their ever improving list of achievements.

CCF Exciting times ahead for Matravers CCF!

Cadet Expansion Project (CEP) continues to progress and we have pushed our project forward and plan to have it as a central part of school ready for September 2017. We have welcomed many visitors to the site to discuss our independence as a cadet contingent and are now just waiting for paperwork confirmation of our ability to standalone.

Can we thank parents, carers and of course our fantastic cadets for their support during this period!!!

Whilst we have had a quiet period in terms of cadet activity, the cadets have gone about their business being fantastic ambassadors for our contingent.

teams the students applied themselves to the challenge and we recorded some excellent timings for the courses they had to follow.

Having endured the more unstable seasons we now look forward to more consistent weather conditions where most of our lessons will be dedicated to being out of the classroom.
