DANCE ORIGINS DANCE FESTIVAL:

On Saturday 4th of March, Endurance Dance Company took part in ‘Origins Dance Festival’ in Bournemouth, adventuring to the seaside to dance. The festival, run by Pavillion Dance, shared works from local dance companies as a platform for groups to share their talent and hard work. Endurance performed their new work ‘The Unknown’, a work that explores outer space and the mysteries of galaxies, planets and their orbits. Our Nasa spacemen were also joined by Year 12 student Ellie Sturgess, the first female dancer to perform with the company, and the response was amazing. The company performed like the true professionals they are, working way beyond their years to wow and impress Bournemouth audiences.

Congratulations Endurance Dance Company for yet again proving how dedication and hard work can take you to the moon and back!

DANCE IN ACTION:

Wednesday 1st March saw Matravers Dance Department’s annual ‘Dance in Action’ showcase. This second Dance in Action event demonstrates the talents of our incredible Year 12 and 13 students as well as some guest appearances from GCSE performers and choreographers. The A Level students present their solo choreographies and performances as well as a group performance piece based on ‘Survival of the fittest’ and two group choreographies based on a sculpture named ‘waiting’ and a piece of music by Sweatson Klank. The audience were wowed by performance after performance of well-rehearsed, created and original work. All of the

students involved demonstrated just how hard our dancers work and that the result is intelligent and well- crafted choreography and performance. We await our practical exams in both GCSE and A Level but we are confident that the work that all of our exam students produce will certainly wow our visiting examiners. Many thanks to all those who came to support this wonderful evening and huge congratulations to our Year 13 students, Cassidy Hill and Chloe Bignall. This will be their last ever Dance in Action with the school after being in every one since they started at Matravers in Year 7. We are so proud of you and cannot thank you enough for the commitment you have shown to Dance over your time at Matravers.

WEST WILTS DANCE FESTIVAL:

It was time again for Matravers Dance to take to the stage of the Bath Forum for the annual ‘West Wilts Dance Festival’. This year’s theme ‘Dare to Dream’, led to two performances from Matravers Dance, including ‘The Unknown’ by Endurance Dance Company and ‘These Shackled Souls’ by a combination of MakeSHIFT and KickStart Dance Companies. It was such a pleasure to take 37 students from Matravers to the festival, where we were privileged to open the entire show week and close the first half. Endurance took the theme and created their interpretation of exploration of outer space and the dream of Nasa to get a man to the moon. MakeSHIFT explored the concept of African Slaves and the hope shared by so many that they would one day be free of the chains that control them. Students danced beautifully, performing with passion and commitment that truly wowed audiences. Many commented on our student’s professionalism, likening them all to professional dance companies. Not only this but many commented on how polite, well-mannered and supportive our students were. As a department we could not have been prouder of our students who shone that evening. We cannot thank our dancers enough for their stunning performances and beautiful focus and commitment.
