SCIENCE NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK
The week of the 13th of March signalled the start of National Science week, and Matravers School had some treats planned for the students. During the week there were a whole variety of workshops happening, from launching rockets to the dangers of putting water on a chip pan fire. The student got to see a whole variety of fun science that we don’t normally get to show them during lesson times and may have inadvertently learned something along the way (we hope!). The turnout for some of these events was huge, with students actively engaging and showing real enthusiasm for science - well done to everyone who took part.
We also took some of our Year 8 students to the ‘at Bristol’ centre. This was a fun packed day full of hands-on science to help the students learning and develop their interest in the subject. Each student also got to take part in a workshop on the day as well. They either did some ‘Colourful Chemistry’ where they got to make bioluminance blue glows as well as other things or they took part in the ‘Brain Lab’ where they looked at slides of real animal brains under the microscopes, picking out
key points. All of the students had an amazing time and showed-off how brilliant the school is.
With exams approaching very quickly, we would like to take this opportunity to remind you all that there are going to be 6 exams in science for most students (with a small minority sitting only 3). Revision sessions for science are every Thursday, and it would be amazing to see as many people there as we can! We know that if you all come to the revision sessions then you will all be able to reach your full potential in the exams.
