PE FOOTBALL

badminton team at the County Finals in Tidworth. Tiffany Crockford-Ward and Ella Pearce battled hard all day supported by the doubles pairing of Millie Wells and Katie Blaxall. The girls met some tough opposition, finally finishing 3rd, equalling the KS4 boys performance from 2016. As well as competing in the competition Matravers also provided the majority of officials for the competitions for the 5th consecutive year with the Year 11 GCSE students developing their knowledge and understanding of badminton officiating ready for their moderation. The matches were fast and furious with every official being tested to their limits.

All year groups have fielded competitive football teams this season with over 60 boys representing Matravers from Year 7 to 10. Year 7 have used over 20 players this season, fielding an A and B teams in the West Wilts league, as well as playing a friendly tournament with teams from Beechen Cliff. Stand out performances from Oscar Thorne in defence and Jack Gilroy’s leadership have allowed the team to develop into an exciting prospect. After a difficult end to last season Year 8 and 9 have demonstrated resilience and success so far this season. Year 8 have only lost one game, with victories over John of Gaunt and St Augustines in recent weeks. Top goal scorer and captain, Nick Brisdon has led by example, filling in, in goal when the team needed in the absence Nathan Lintern who has kept the team in every game with some outstanding saves at crucial times. Year 9 have had a mixed season with injuries to key players disrupting the form of the team. The stand out victory came against Melksham Oak where the boys won 6-1 after going down 1-0 in the opening minute. Two narrow defeats at the start of the season for Year 10 might have signalled the end to their season, however the team rallied and have not lost since. Outstanding performances against St Augustines, winning 6-0 and St Laurence, winning 4-1 showed how talented this team is. Kye Dicks has terrified defences down the right with Brad Hill and Harrison Parmley leading the goal scoring.

BADMINTON Once again Matravers fielded a strong KS4 girl’s
