P ADERBORN , SENNELA GER & DETMOLD 2012 Medical/Dental Transport


There are two main types of healthcare: Primary Health Care (PHC) – Community based health clinics and surgeries. When visiting your Doctor/Dentist there is no Garrison-provided transport for this trip. It is an individuals responsibility to get themselves and their dependants to the appointment. However, if you are unable to drive and have no way of getting to the appointment, you may utilise the Inter-Unit & NAAFI/Amenities/Medical/Dental, Transport - for timetables please see the Paderborn Garrison website or contact the Garrison Information Officer on 05254 982 2069


Secondary Health Care (SHC) – If you have been referred to a Hospital/ Clinic Outpatient appointment and you require transport, the Medical/Dental Centre Receptionist will call on your behalf to book a pick-up by the GTO, when making arrangements for your referral appointment. This is called the Patient Transport Service (PTS) This Transport Service runs in Paderborn and Sennelager. You may find that you will not be the only patient, so you could be sharing a car/minibus, depending on the number of Hospital/Clinic appointments scheduled for that task. GTO’s try and provide a swift and seamless journey and the PTS requires at least 24 hours notice to ensure availability and avoid disappointment.


Detmold Secondary Health Care


The system used in Detmold differs to the service run in Paderborn/Sennelager. At your Medical and Dental appointment in Detmold/Hameln when you get your referral, you will be asked by the Receptionist/Clerk if you require GTO transport. She/he then submits a weekly list to the GTO’s two location Office Managers, who will arrange transport on your behalf. Please book 48 hrs in advance if possible. To enable the GTO’s staff to action your transport requirement quickly and efficiently, they will require the following information:


• Date of Travel • Passengers Name • Number of Passengers


• Age of child(ren) travelling with you (Child Seat req’d?) • Unit


• Service number (Mil/UKBC) • Contact telephone (in case the GTO need to contact you) • Address where you will be collected from • Where you are travelling to (Hospital/Clinic) • Appointment Time


Once they have all these important details they can work out a time for your collection to meet your appointment. Please remember that they have appointments as far as away as Düsseldorf and Hohne, a good 3 plus hours travel. Please ensure that you book your transport 48 hours in advance to avoid disappointment, as they can not always provide transport for last minute requests.


On completion of your appointment the Hospital Liaison Office (HLO) or Clinic receptionist will be happy to contact the GTO and arrange your collection.
