P ADERBORN , SENNELA GER & DETMOLD 2012 Employment for Dependants
Just arrived in Paderborn, Sennelager or Detmold and looking for employment? The GLSU will be happy to assist with all your employment enquiries. You will find us in Alanbrooke Barracks - just inside the main gate above the guardroom. We employ nearly 1600 civilian staff in support of Paderborn Garrison which includes around 1250 in Paderborn and Sennelager and 60 in Detmold. Of the 2 categories of staff the largest group is Directly Employed Labour (DEL) who are recruited from the local civilian population. The Dependant employees (Deps) are the spouses and dependant young adults of soldiers and UK Based Civilians (UKBCs). As part of the Civilian Component, Dependant employees are regarded as Crown Servants and are exempt from UK Tax under Inland Revenue Board Order Section 28(5) of the Income Tax (Earnings and Pensions) Act 2003. Please be aware that although Dependant employees are not subject to UK Tax, they are subject to deduction of UK National Insurance contributions.
If you are unsure about your employment status please contact the GLSU - it can be quite complex if you have been ordinarily resident in Germany in the past and we will guide you.
