Bad Lippspringe History


The spa town of Bad Lippspringe is situated about 10 km northeast of Paderborn, on the western slope of the Teutoburger Wald (Forest). In the 13th century the order of the Templars established a stronghold, and in about 1400 the town received civic rights. There are many springs in the town; the Arminius spring and the Liborius spring, for which the town is famous, are saline waters of a temperature of 70 °F, and are utilized both for bathing and drinking in cases of pulmonary consumption. The river Lippe has its source in Bad Lippspringe.

Bad Lippspringe is teaming with great shops and you’ll find everything you need here. There are also many cafés and restaurants to choose from and enjoy a meal out.


Banks


All the major German banks are located in the town. They’re generally open all day during the week but check before visiting a branch during lunchtime as they might be closed at this time. The banks are all closed on weekends.

Woodlands


The 240 hectare forest bordering Bad Lippspringe provides a tranquil place for those wanting to experience nature. There is 25 km of flat hiking trails through the forest, including an educational nature trail. Lake Strothe and other idyllic lakes can be found around the forest, as can various cafes that offer tea, coffee and cakes. Spend a peaceful moment in the Chapel of Peace, which is illuminated by a sea of candles, or visit the Cemetery of Honour.


British Army Golf Club


The British Army Golf Club is 2.5 km from Bad Lippspringe town centre, and is open to all BFG/UKBC families and children. You don’t even have to be a member to enjoy the facilities on offer at the Club. For more information please see the page in this chapter advertising the Club.


Rhine Army Parachute Association (RAPA) Situated near the British Army Golf Club, the Parachute Centre is the perfect place to visit for an adrenalin rush! They offer a variety of skydiving activities, so take advantage of having this facility within the Garrison. There are lots of facilities on site including a cafe and bar. The Westfalen-Therme


Experience, enjoy and relax in this unique swimming bath, sauna and wellness centre for all ages. The Therme provides a sub-tropical thermal water world, an outdoor pool, a variety of saunas on three levels, a children’s paradise with water slides, a massage centre, a beautician studio and much more! The Therme is situated on the edge of the Teutoburger Forest, and as well as all the above it offers a first class food selection too. Open daily from 0900-2300 hrs, Fridays 0900-2400 hrs.
