The Customs and Immigration Officer responsible for all of Paderborn Garrison is based in Barker Barracks (HCSO Building) and gives advice to all members of the Garrison as well as to units about the general customs aspects of life in BFG – with a particular emphasis on tax concessions, advising anyone who may wish to set themselves up to trade during their tour as well as on the purchase or disposal of motor vehicles. In addition he assists units and individuals in planning their moves back to the UK at the end of their time in BFG. As the rules relating to tax-free concessions can appear to be complicated and the penalties severe should the rules be broken, he is more than happy to explain and give advice to anyone to ensure that they make the full use of the concessions available to them.
Trading (e.g. starting/running a business whilst in the Garrison) If you want to run a business whilst you’re here in BFG, whether you think it will make a profit or not, you have to be registered with Customs and Immigration. The process isn’t difficult and the Garrison Customs and Immigration Officer is happy to give advice and talk through the steps. The German Authorities would be very concerned about people trading without the correct permissions, so it’s best to seek advice as early as possible. At present we have quite a number of people trading very successfully as a variety of businesses – e.g. health and fitness, beauty care, card and book sales, kitchen and home equipment, clothing and footwear etc. The registration procedures are not onerous!
Customs and Immigration is located in Barker Barracks, in the HCSO's Building, and can be contacted on mil: 79 3370 or civil: 05251 101 370.
