Travel in and around the Paderborn area could not be easier. There is an international airport 30km away; an extensive autobahn (motorway) system and a rail system that is quick and efficient.
HIVE

Many of your travel questions can be answered in your local HIVE. Here the team have access to the internet and can help you to find places to visit, festivals to go to locally or further afield or specialist activities that are a one off. They are constantly updating their database and are more than happy to point you in the right direction.
Travel Agents
There are a number of travel agents, Reisebüro, in Paderborn. Some are British staffed and others German staffed but English speaking, who specialise in the travel requirements of Single Soldiers and Service families. (See Classified Index of Advertisers).
Flights
Paderborn / Lippstadt Airport
www.airport-pad.com Paderborn Airport is a modern airport located approximately 30 mins from Paderborn/Sennelager. The airport runs a once weekly Air Trooping service to and from Birmingham International Airport and deals with School Children’s Visits at the appropriate times. Buses are provided from the Sennelager/Paderborn area to the airport to meet Army flights. Details of flights and bus details are available from your Unit Movements Clerk.
School Children’s Visits (SCV)
Children undergoing full time education in UK are eligible for SCV flights in two separate categories.
All enquiries should be made through your Movements Clerk or Unit Welfare Office Clerk. Four months notice is usually required.
Flights to UK – Children Starting at Boarding School On initial entry to a boarding school, the parent may be allowed to claim for a free flight (no railway warrants) to accompany his/her child. This entitlement must be checked first with your Movements Clerk. For further information (and also about Passports), apply through your Unit Movements Office. Do this in plenty of time.
Indulgence Flights
Indulgence flights are flights on RAF or MOD-charter aircraft on a fill-in basis at minimal cost. They are sometimes available and it is always worth contacting your Unit Movements Office for details.
Free Flights
Spouses should ask their Unit Admin Office about entitlement to any free flights to the UK during a tour of duty.
Travel to Airports
Buses are provided to meet Army flights. Bus times and routes are available from your Unit Movements Clerk.
