Summer fun at Abbey Nursery Houston
The summer months at Abbey were a lot of fun for everyone as children moved rooms and some prepared to leave for Primary School. The Themed Weeks were chosen by the children and a great success; including
My

The children particularly enjoyed the range of sports activities on offer including basketball, hockey, football and golf and we must thank

We are delighted to welcome new and returning children to Houston Primary School Nursery and lots of exciting events have been planned for the weeks ahead. A treasure hunt is being organised, within the school grounds, linked to the Nursery’s Eat Well to Play Well initiative. The children will be given treasure maps to assist their hunt and donations for this event will be sent to Mary’s Meals, to support the famine in Africa. The children will also be participating in lots of fun colour activities, concluding with a Rainbow Party. The countdown has started for the 2012 Olympics and the children will be developing and learning lots of new sporting skills throughout the session.
We look forward to working together, cooperation and sharing our commitment to our Nursery and School, and to continue maintaining high standard in all areas of our pupils’ learning experience.
We are delighted that Houston Primary School and Nursery class have once again achieved Fair Trade accreditation for the third year.
Renfrewshire exam performance “very encouraging”
Education chiefs in Renfrewshire have said that the results gained in this year’s exams were “very encouraging.”
Councillor Lorraine Cameron, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Education Policy Board, said: “The initial assessment of this year’s provisional exam results is very encouraging for Renfrewshire schools and pupils.
“There are several areas of particular improvement. That’s especially the case with pupils achieving at the end of sixth year where more pupils left with standard and higher grades.
“Performance was maintained for S4 pupils taking standard grade and there was a slight increase in S4 pupils gaining passes in English and Maths.
“It’s also important to recognise that the statistics don’t refl ect the full achievements of our young people who gain non-SQA awards such as City and Guilds, ASDAN and Duke of Edinburgh Awards.”
Robert Naylor, Renfrewshire Council’s Director of Education and Leisure Services, said: “Together with our schools and teachers, we will be looking at the exam result data over the next few weeks. This will allow us to see more fully where we have made improvements and where there are areas we need to work on further.
“It’s worth pointing out that the fi gures we have received are ‘pre-appeal’. A more accurate picture will be available in January 2012 when the post-appeal fi gures area available.
“At this stage, I would like to congratulate all of our pupils on their exam achievements this year and also the committed staff in our schools who do a fi ne job in supporting and encouraging them.”
