Deaf Awareness and Sign Language Workshop Wednesday 14th September - 9.30am - 12.30pm - Paisley Arts Centre, New Street, Paisley


Signs4Life is offering an introductory workshop in deaf awareness and sign language to help staff to communicate with their deaf and hard of hearing colleagues, customers and clients.


This local initiative is to help identify barriers that deaf people face and explore their culture and community but also to encourage inclusion of all people with sensory, physical or learning disabilities.

The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund Donate To Erskine Veterans


The rural twist continues right on your doorstep or not far away - soul, jazz, opera, musicals and Scottish traditional.


Head to The Weir in Bridge of Weir for some inspiring soul. You’ll know the numbers and love the atmosphere – get along to hear Republic of Soul on 8th October.


Come into Paisley on 22nd October and learn singing technique from a Scottish master - Sophie Bancroft , whose ‘voice is heavenly’. But fi rst she’ll be singing in her uplifting way with Tom Lyne at the Centre for Performing Arts, Paisley, on 21st October. Enjoy some jazz later in October with the Marco Cafolla Electric Trio and Stewart Forbes, also at The Weir.


To support our cultural future and keep our heritage thriving we are bringing several schools together, in a rural setting, at Gryffe High School, Houston for some traditional Scottish musical workshops. A great opportunity and fabulous experience for our youth, and our community!


Remember to book an evening of Accessible Opera and Musical Memories at Ingliston Country Club, Bishopton on 20th October. Start the evening with dinner then come to the Salerno Suite to hear Opera Alba on 20th October. A classic evening in rural surroundings, what more could you want.


To start things rolling, head for the Ashtree House Hotel, Paisley on 25th September to hear local singer/ songwriter Anna MacDonald. With a voice described as ‘angelic’, let her entertain you with guitar, piano and clarsach.

The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund has made a generous donation of £120,000 to the veterans’ charity Erskine. Group Captain R G Kemp CBE QVRM AE DL, Director Scotland of the RAF Benevolent Fund visited The Erskine Home in Bishopton to present the cheque to a group of RAF veterans.


This donation takes the total charitable income received from the Benevolent Fund to more than £2,000,000 since 1997.


Previous donations were used towards the care of Erskine’s many


RAF


veterans, several of whom met Group Captain Kemp on his visit. Also benefi ting from the generous donations over the years were The Erskine Housing Project which is overseeing the construction of 52 new properties to replace the existing veterans’ cottages on the Erskine Estate and refurbishment work carried the Erskine Home, to complete the conversion of a unit from residential to specialist dementia care.


Group Captain Kemp said “It is always a pleasure to visit fellow RAF servicemen at Erskine and even more gratifying to see that the Benevolent Fund’s donations are being put to excellent use.


Veteran Joe Parker (90) said: “Group Captain Kemp is a familiar fi gure to Erskine veterans and is always a pleasure to spend time with him. We are very grateful for the generosity of the RAF Benevolent Fund which helps provide the wonderful care all veterans here at Erskine enjoy.”
