Successfu l Summer Events at Greenock Cut
Greenock Cut has had an extremely successful summer events programme this year seeing over 220 people in attendance! The events were very varied ranging from a birds of prey day to spooky bat mobiles and kite making.
There was also archaeology and the Lunderston Bay favourite – rock pooling!
Tomorrow’s People meet MSP Bridge of Weir Horticultural Society
On August 6th we had an outing to Ayr Flower Show, the weather was kind for most of our visit and the show offered inspiration to growers and fl ower arrangers. The scale of the Ayr show is somewhat larger than the Bridge of Weir Show but our exhibits can be just as colourful. We would like to thank the bus driver, who was very accommodating to the purchases made; plant and other materials for use in the garden were safely transported home.
The weather on 14th August was ideal for the opening of Anna McKenzie’s garden for charity, funds raised going to Multiple Sclerosis research. The garden delighted a large number of visitors, and the home
baking was greatly appreciated by all who were there. Going to press we are fairly well organised for our Show on August 27th and are hoping for a good turnout from exhibitors and from those who enjoy fl owers. We are open for entrants on the evening of Friday 26th August and morning of Saturday 27th – non-exhibitors will be able to fi nd out who won what at 12:00 on the Saturday.
We are also ready to start the winter lecture series which start at 8pm on Thursday evenings. The speaker for the fi rst event has confi rmed that he will be at Bridge of Weir Legion Club on 13th October to speak about “Growing Vegetables”. Given the growing interest in allotments and organic food and the rising price of food, this should be of great interest to a number of people. You will be made most welcome when you come along.
On Wednesday 10th August a group from Tomorrow’s People Inverclyde, came to visit the Greenock Cut Centre to meet MSP Duncan McNeil. They have been working very hard all over the Regional Park making bird boxes and various other tasks at Castle Semple, even completing work on the day -despite the dreary weather! Duncan McNeil and Regional Park Manager Charlie Woodward gathered to congratulate and thank the group for their continued efforts. Tomorrow’s people is a brilliant nationwide organisation that helps people gain skills and opportunities that can help them with future employment.
Lochwinnoch Autumn Farmers’ Market
The next market will take place on Sunday 4th September. Come along and sample local, seasonal produce and maybe pick up something unique from our increasingly varied stalls.
Classic Car Show
On Sunday 25th September, Castle Semple will play host to an impressive array of ‘old Fords’ in a spectacular classic car show. Distinguished vehicles from all over Scotland will be coming to showcase by the Loch and are sure to delight and dazzle all. Owners will be only too pleased to answer any questions from 11am - 2pm. An event not to be missed!
Two New Castle Semple Events for your Diary!

actually record what happens in them. Come along to Castle Semple to fi nd out more about participating in the BTO Nest Box Challenge and build your own box to monitor.
