Back to Business at Houston & Killellan Kirk

It’s been a very successful summer at Houston and Killellan Kirk, with Starzone attracting a good turnout of children on fi ve occasions during the school holidays. Much fun has been had by all as a different country’s culture was visited and explored in each session.

Watch out for Starzone days to come in September and October during school holidays!

Our Scavenger Hunt on Saturday 30th July was also hugely enjoyable as participants struggled to fi nd a huge list of obscure items before working off any surplus energy on the bouncy castle and eating at the BBQ.

Now for most of us it is back to business, and our organisations start up again over the coming weeks.

The Guild begin again on Tuesday 6th September with a Welcome meeting and Harvest Supper. New members are very welcome.

Senior Citizens meet again on 14th September. Both organisations promise a varied programme with lots of interest to all. They also offer a warm welcome to new members.

Houston Community Council

Members of Houston Community Council broke their usual summer recess to meet with planners, to discuss outline proposals which will see improvements carried out to the area at the Mercat Cross, a historical monument which has been in the village for some 300 years, and which is sited next to the local Fox and Hounds hostelry.

Members heard of various plans and proposals which if implemented will see seating installed in the vicinity of the monument, while other proposals would see paving and walls improved if money permits, as a fi rst phase of improvements which both planners and the Community Council agreed would be benefi cial to the village, funding of course permitting.

The planning representatives agreed to provide members with more defi ned proposals, based on the suggestions agreed upon by both sides, in time for the next full meeting of the Community Council on Wednesday 20th September, in order that fi nal agreed improvements can be completed within the current fi nancial year ending in March 2012. Planners and Community Council members alike left the meeting highly encouraged by the partnership approach taken, and the degree of consensus which existed within the meeting, and it is hoped that this a positive sign of things to come in the future, with further fi nancial help being sought to help fund additional phases of local improvements in and around the village.
