Late Autumn in the Garden Cultivate Box
A garden can never have too much box, especially if you want to use it as an evergreen edging, but it is expensive. The cheapest way to get more is to take cuttings. The best time is late autumn. Cut off 10cm lengths from the tips, remove lower leaves and push into pots of gritty compost. When they show signs of growth in spring, lift and replant.

August saw much activity on the hedge trimming front. The box hedges received a gentle cut as they had suffered much frost and other damage. The Eucryphia and Hydrangeas are providing late summer colour together with late performers such as Crocosmia Lucifer and Agapanthus. We have seasonal plants & produce for sale outside the Visitor Centre which were all grown on the estate, so very handy to buy!
Plants should be divided when they’re dormant, in late autumn or early spring. Replant sections in bare spots in borders, adding compost to the soil.
Autumn fl owering Aster - Divide March to April Autumn fl owering Anemone - Divide October to April Autumn fl owering Sedum - Divide March to May
Volunteers
Our regular volunteers continue with a variety of tasks throughout the estate and they are often supplemented by Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme participants as well. During September we will see ‘Flexi-care Conservation Group’ here for a day, but we are always pleased to hear from other groups or individuals who would like to help the Rangers in the woods or Sue in the garden and anyone interested should contact us by email at info@ fi
nlaystone.co.uk.

We have included a facility on the web site to enable visitors to include their own photographs taken on the estate and anyone who has any good quality digital photographs should email them to info@fi

End of Season Plant Sale
