I am pleased to see that following a request from myself and a site visit with offi cers the new bollards have all been erected near to the Howwood Village store, this will improve visibility when parking near to the store and also avoid heavy lorries parking on the footpath causing damage and limiting visibility to both drivers and pedestrians.
Over the summer months there has been an increase in antisocial behaviour and fl y-tipping not to mention the ongoing issue of dog fouling. The Renfrewshire Warden service operates seven days a week responding to residents calls about vandalism, graffi ti, antisocial behaviour, litter and fl y tipping if you need to contact the service call 0141 889 3499 or email

Further to my correspondence over the last few years regarding the problems that many of my constituents have experienced regarding discolouration of their drinking water and also the quality whilst washing and bathing I am happy to an announce that Scottish Water has secured funding to undertake a project at Muirdykes Water Treatment Works to rehabilitate the water mains network that is affected by this issue. This work will help to minimise the levels of manganese in the water supply which will improve the quality of your drinking water.
I have also visited with several constituents recently in order to assist with the housing improvements works that are currently being carried out in their area. If you are experiencing diffi culties or have any concerns and would like to discuss the works proposed please contact me at your earliest convenience to discuss.

Hi there, as you read this Summer will be a distant memory. Apart from a few days here and there, it was a pretty poor summer. Maybe I’m just getting old and misty eyed but summers did seem better when I was younger!
Your local councillors will be working towards May s local elections. This election will be the fi rst for a number of years when Councillors alone are up for election and not voted for on the same day as MSP’s. This hopefully will mean voters are only voting on council issues and not on national ones.
I’m delighted with the road works that have been completed along Midton Road particularly near St Vincent’s hospice. For too long relatives have had to suffer potholes on the road when visiting their loved ones. Hopefully this work will solve the problem once and for all. Although with winter just around the corner some of our roads no doubt will be affected by the weather.
It’s great to see one of the local football teams using the football park. I passed the other night and it was packed with local youngsters going through their paces. Maybe the next Messi or Ronaldo will come from Howwood !!
As you know the bus service to Glasgow has been cut back and people are now even more reliant on the train . So I was disappointed to hear fares have to be increased signifi cantly. People are being hit in the pocket from all angles and this increase will again hurt passengers in the pocket and do nothing to help the economy.
I am working with the council to improve signage to the new Pharmacy in the Village. I hope to see some new signs being allowed to be put up soon.
Some of the local groups have moved out of the Village Hall due to the large increase in the cost of lets. As the number of lets decrease let’s hope this does not give the council any thoughts of closing this much needed facility.
Until next time take care, Iain McMillan. |
