Bridge Of Weir Flourishes

Following on from last month’s National Lottery award, things are looking even more rosy for Brighter Bridge of Weir.

“I’ve just heard that we’ve been awarded a Local Area Committee grant of £2,000,” said the group’s treasurer, Margaret Greenlees. “We’re so grateful to Andrena Lindsay of Engage Renfrewhire for her guidance in preparing our submissions.”

The group have recently purchased and fi tted barrier baskets to the pavement barriers at the junction of Main Street and Torr Road, and Renfrewshire Council supplied several planters which have been placed at various locations along Main Street and at the War Memorial next to St Machar’s church.

Alice Johnstone, chair of the group, said that there were many people to thank for their help. “Greenhead Nursery in Inchinnan, which sadly was closing down, donated many bedding plants. Not forgetting the volunteers who helped fi ll all the barrier baskets and street containers with many hundreds of plants, and the friends of Brighter Bridge of Weir who have adopted the maintenance of all the planters.”

The group are currently working to smarten up a small area at Tannery Brig. If any readers have thoughts of areas that they’d like to see given the Brighter Bridge of Weir treatment, or if they’d like to help in some way, they can contact the group’s committee members via the website, www. brighterbridgeofweir.org.
