Christian Aid Coffee Morning

The Christian Aid Committee for Kilmacolm and Quarriers will hold their annual Coffee Morning on Saturday 1st October at 10am in Kidston Hall. Entry £2. There will be the usual Homebaking, Paperback Books, Unwanted Gifts and Plant stalls, plus a stall for Fairtrade products. Kilmacolm and Quarriers have retained their Fairtrade status since 1995, thanks to the support of shops and businesses, schools and churches in our area. Please come along and support the work of your local Christian Aid committee.

Note for your Diary: Final arrangements are underway for a Concert on Wednesday 26th October for Christian Aid, with the highly acclaimed Inverclyde Voices Choir plus soloists. This concert promises to be very special, tickets on sale at the Coffee Morning.

Since last month, I am pleased to say that my earlier report to the council’s lighting department that street lights on Finlaystone Road were on 24 hours a day has now been sorted by the council.

I was contacted by a concerned constituent regarding the state of the stairs that run between Hillside Avenue and Port Glasgow Road. The complaint being that the stairs are slimy and there is overgrowth on them. I have reported this to the council and I hope that this will be tended to soon by offi cials.

It is good to see that over the past weeks we have seen a number of repairs being carried out to several roads in

Kilmacolm by the council’s roads services.

I see that there has been an application put forward to hold a farmer’s market beside the Kilmacolm Community Centre. The farmers’ market has done well in Greenock town centre and like others I have spoken to I believe that this could be a good thing for the village and I wish it success.

For my next surgeries in September please see the local newspaper. I can

be contacted on 01475-712727 (council offi ce0, or mobile: 07747 765839, or by email: jim.macleod@inverclyde.gov.uk or writing to me at Inverclyde Council, Municipal Buildings, Clyde Square, Greenock, PA15 1LY.

New Classes in Kilmacolm!

‘M.A.D.’

Music and Drama classes (‘MAD’) are a great way of getting young children aged 5- 8 (P1 - P4) interested in music movement and drama. Classes are fun, friendly and funky and a wonderful introduction to the joys and disciplines of the performing arts. Using specially written musical material the class aims to present simple performances in an exciting way.

The class will be led by actress, Jo James, and the songs and dramas have been penned by her husband, Mike, who has extensive experience in writing for children. His many credits include Raven, Zingzillas, Gigglebiz and Waybuloo for TV and, as a theatre director, he has written dozens of children’s shows for the stage.

Please book early as places are limited!

Classes will be held on a Thursday at St Columba Lesser Hall, Kilmacolm from 4pm - 4.45pm. Contact Jo James on 01505 872574.

Kilmacolm Scottish Country Dance Class

It hardly seems possible that the summer is drawing to a close already, but I have now booked the hall for the Class to start again in September, so it’s time to remind dancers that we shall start our classes again on 19th September in the Kidston Hall, Kilmacolm, from 7.30 to 9.30pm.

This is a really friendly class and a good way of spending Monday evenings, getting a bit fi tter and having fun whilst dancing. We’d love to welcome new members – either complete beginners, or those of you who haven’t danced for ages. If you aren’t a regular dancer, it’s a good idea to make sure that you come to the fi rst few nights of the class, when we do all the basics.
