098 VENUE
Whisper
WHISPER “Whisper’s focus versus G Lounge was more dance club-centric. The owners wanted a top notch high-output sound system with the fidelity of G Lounge, but with more output for a larger dancefloor and a wide range of DJs playing various formats,” said Freemer. Whisper’s 8,000 sq ft includes three lounge areas and six bars, as well as a balcony and exclusive VIP overlooking the dancefloor. Aimed at the high-end clubber, the colour scheme is black, which allows visual elements like the 65 LED panels to have a greater impact. To answer the audio output desires of the owners, Freemer needed equipment capable of coping with the challenges presented by clubs. “Nightclubs are demanding audio environments. While their systems need high output and fidelity, durability also becomes vital. They must operate for six to eight hours per night, without causing fatigue to the customers’ ears over an extended timeframe. “The Solution Series is what I consider my ‘secret weapon’ for high- fidelity, high-output systems. It’s one of the best sounding cabinets out there, at any price, and just happens to be extremely affordable. I’m a huge fan of horn-loaded speaker design and the SLS960, as

an example, has amazing fidelity, clarity and sensitivity, all rolled into one box,” said Freemer. Whisper has approximately 50 loudspeakers, including 22 on the centrally located main dancefloor. They range from subwoofer cabinets to hanging super tweeter arrays. Four main clusters frame the dancefloor, each with a three-way Community Solutions SLS960 top cabinet paired with a Community SBS22 double 12-inch mid bass cabinet. These are mated with custom horn-loaded 18-inch subwoofers and super tweeters produced by Adam Freemer Audio. Freemer chose Thrive for the system’s amplifiers. “I came across an amplifier line designed and built by Summit Audio, the highly respected American company that builds high-end studio grade compressors and pre-amps. The Thrive amplifier line built by Summit is a modern version of the classic huge toroidal amplifier designs of the past, but modernised with an extremely efficient design, yet having massive power reserves for those big room kicks and bass lines. I’ve had quite a few Thrive amps running day in and day out for over four years now without a hiccup. I can’t speak highly enough about these amps, oh and the fidelity is of the standard of home hi-fi quality. It’s quite an amazing combo.”
