096 VENUE

G Lounge

“I’ve been using Community speakers in audio-visual installs for quite a few years on a wide range of jobs from boardrooms, to performance theatre spaces, to nightclubs and bars,” said Freemer. “I’ve found, out-of-the-box, they have a good sound to them that generally requires less processing then other brands. Also, the people working at Community are terrific to work with and provide help in custom applications that is rare in this day and age. Dollar for dollar, I really find the VERIS and iBOX speakers hard to beat on performance, output and sound quality, compared to other comparable speaker systems.” Audio for each of the lounge’s separate zones can be selected by one of 15 corresponding Rane SR4 remote source and volume selector controls, allowing any potential configuration of zones and room combinations. The main area is dominated, visually, by a 55ft VersaTILE LED wall created by Texas-based technology innovators, Element Labs. This ‘electric wallpaper’ is made up of 5-inch LED panels, each of which is capable of producing over one billion colours. Extron video processing manages distribution of the video content across this and the various LG and Sharp LCD TVs throughout the venue. The owners of G Lounge opted for a simple and discrete lighting

system, with their focus on the LED wall. A total of 12 Chauvet MiN Spot RGBW’s were mounted into the dropped ceiling tiles for a minimal, discrete lighting system. A Chauvet Obey 70 controller operates the lights. LED architectural lighting was installed inside a dancer ‘shadow box’, where there is a dancer illuminated from behind for a silhoette effect. More LED lighting illuminates the water wall by the entrance. Both sets of fixtures are controlled by Chauvet Obey controllers, which are changed nightly to provide a different colour scheme for the evening and are also set accordingly for corporate events, depending on the specific theme. “The aesthetic goal for the audio-visual system was to build as much into the design for minimal visual impact. Subwoofers were mounted inside walls when possible. Ceiling speakers were used when possible. That being said, G Lounge has one of the highest fidelity sound systems in Philadelphia, which was also a goal of the original design. It’s not an overpowering system, just very clean and not harsh on the ears. “This has been part of the formula for the club’s success with the venue just celebrating a three-year anniversary, and going strong three nights a week consistently,” revealed Freemer.
