If you’re a self proclaimed sun goddess, love the feel of sand between the toes, or enjoy taking a dip in the ocean, then Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast, Australia is the place for you. By day visitors soak up the idyllic surroundings but when night falls the Gold Coast’s hottest new member, Vanity nightclub beckons. A venue built on a wealth of experience, from within its own inner circle of person- nel. Vanity was intended to be a rival of its US equivalents, and with that in mind has been kitted out with the most spectacular line up of entertainment technology. Vanity’s owners Jamie Pickering and Craig Missen opted to put their trust in those already around them for the design and installation of Vanity. The duo selected Maya Eschembrenner to be in charge of the design and decoration and Bastian Foersterling to act as Project

Manager and Technical Consultant. Bastian has been involved with the pair’s organisation for almost a decade, having worked with them on previous projects such as The Sugar Shack, Hollywood Showgirl, SinCity nightclub and The Bedroom. The latter is the space Bastian and Maya have transformed into Vanity.


In terms of design Jamie and Craig wanted nothing less than the best. They craved luxury fabrics, opulent furnishings all made from the most exquisite materials. Bastian explained further: “The owners were mainly concentrating on the overall look of the place and left all the finer details of how to make it work in my hands. The back of bar candle displays and large lighting boxes were all custom made.” The 100 custom electronic LED wax candles on hand wood-turned gold candlesticks are one of designer Maya’s favourite features. Other ambient lighting elements include golden globe cluster chande- liers and classic crystal wall lights, all of which blend subtly into their surroundings.
