Company: coolux, Martin Professional AIDA

Cruise ships used to be viewed as being the complete opposite of ‘cool’. In the eyes of many, going on board a cruise ship was a way of travelling best left to the elderly and bingo enthusiasts. Looking at the real situation in Germany in 2011, it seems hard to believe these kinds of stereotypes ever existed at all. AIDA cruises in particular are growing ever more popular with people of all age groups. The AIDA fleet’s iconic prow design was created by the award winning German painter Feliks Buettner and has become the outer symbol of the AIDA Cruises’ major success story. The beautiful design statement on the outside is matched by the equally formidable show events on offer inside the ships. With multiple shows being performed on board each ship every day, cutting edge show technology, ranging from Martin Professional lighting equipment to coolux Pandoras Box media servers, is em- ployed to ensure that passengers are able to enjoy an unforgettable experience. Lighting designer Hilton Jones has designed and specified the complete enter- tainment lighting systems for the cruise ships AIDAvita, AIDAaura, as well as the

AIDAdiva, AIDAbella and AIDAluna, which has not only set new standards of in- novation in the cruise industry, but also been recognised with ‘Best Entertainment Program on a Cruise Ship Worldwide’ prize. He is currently working on finalising the specifications for the AIDAsol and contin- ues to design the lighting for all productions on board the AIDA fleet. Jones has been using the award winning coolux Pandoras Box server systems for more than five years. He said: “I don’t regret having selected this system. We’re putting a new ship into service each year and I’m using at least one Pandoras Box server on each of the ships for multiple applications. We’re having a lot of fun with it.“ One of Jones’s main reasons for choosing the coolux Pandoras Box was the sys- tem’s great flexibility and adaptability to different show environments. The current set-up allows one Pandoras Box to be used for two show-venues on board the ship simultaneously. www.coolux.de / www.martin.com
