Harrahs currently operates 52 casinos is six countries plus 39,000 hotel rooms and 2m sq.ft of convention centre space. The company signed an agreement back in 2005 to develop the huge Caesars España resort, part of the El Reino project in Spain and suspended plans in 2008 for a resort in Slovenia when an agreement with HIT failed. The company also withdrew from a project in the Bahamas.
The company has shown a revenue decline during the first nine months of 2009 of 13.7 per cent from the same period in 2008 whilst net revenues fell from $2.28bn from $2.65 in the previous year’s third quarter period.
THECASINOMARKET There are currently eight casinos in Slovakia operated between three companies.
CASINOSSLOVAKIA The public limited company Casinos Slovakia was founded in 1990 and opened its first casino in 1991 in the Art House in Piestany.
This was followed six months later by Casino Presov which later moved to Kosice in 1993 and renamed Casino Kosice.
Its association with Casinos Austria ended in 1996 and today the shareholders are TIPOS which owns 51.32 per cent and Merk Real Estate with 48.68 per cent.
Company results for 2008 showed a slight decline particularly in the second half of 2008, especially in Café Reduta which was blamed mainly on the opening of new casino operations in the immediate vicinity and the start of the economic crisis.

Total game deposits in 2008 for the company was SKK1.4bn (€46m) a slight 2.5 per cent decrease on the previous year. For table games this was SKK954m (31m); slot machines SKK178m (€5.9m); electronic roulette SKK248m (€8.2m) and VLTs SKK19.7m (€653,920)
American Roulette took the most whilst the casinos saw a total of 69,536 guests in 2008, an increase of 2.8 per cent. Today the company operates five casinos:
