OPERATORS Gauselmann’s Merkur Casino today operates around 70 entertainment centres in 10 different countries.


The group opened its first gaming hall in Slovakia in June 2006 and today has seven operations there.


There are now two Merkur Spielo arcades present in Bratislava plus centres in Nitra, Zilina, Ziar, Trencin and Scalica.


All the arcades are open from 8am until 5am and come with modern fittings including a bar and seating areas.


The first centre to open in June 2006 was a Merkur Casino in Bratislava in the city


quarter of Ruzinov close to the Slovan and Inter football stadiums. The 330sq.m centre houses 38 AWPs in total plus 15 VLTs and two eight player multi player roulettes and food and bar service.


This centre was later followed by another Merkur Casino in Bratislava which has 30 AWPs plus two electronic roulettes and 13 VLTs.


The branded Merkur Spielos opened in Zilina and Scalica in July 2008. Zilina’s arcade is located in a modern MAX shopping centre and has 20 AWPs, one electronic roulette and 15 VLTs. Scalica is close to the border with the Czech Republic and is also located in a MAX shopping centre and has 26 AWPs plus one electronic roulette and 13 VLTs.


The Nitra centre has 20 AWPs, two electronic roulettes and 15 VLTs and Ziar has 20 AWPs and one electronic roulette. The latest centre, branded Merkur Herna, opened in Trencin in May 2009 and is 340sq.m offering a total of 20 AWPs, one

Merkur is now looking to open a third arcade in Bratislava of 350sq.m and is also looking at other cities such as Kosice and Presov for further openings in the future.


Merkur Spielo SK’s Ralph Kollar said: ”The choice to find the most suitable game for each player is not difficult due to a wide range on offer in Slovakia. And we are really offering a wide range of games.


“We can say that the VLT games are much preferred by the players due to the fact of winning high amounts and include games such as those from Merkur, Admiral, Kajot and Synot.


“The gaming market is still growing in Slovakia especially the VLT games. And
