(part-time) As an Apprentice or trainee in painting and decorating, you will learn the following: hand tools and their uses, cleaning and maintenance, basic painting and wallpapering techniques and about the materials that you will use. You will learn how to use portable power tools, how to work safely and how the building team works together. You will also learn how to communicate and work effectively with others, as well as learning basic building methods and construction technology. You will get the chance to learn how to quantify materials required for the work you will be expected to do and how to safely move and store materials. In addition you will learn how to estimate and quantify for material requirements and learn about employment rights and responsibilities. Start date: 6 September 2010 End date: 2 July 2011 Duration of the course: 36 weeks Entry requirements: College interview and assessment. Mode of attendance: Full-time (3 days) or part-time (1 day and one evening) Possible next steps: Painting and Decorating Diploma (level 2) Approximate tuition fee: £1,275
(part-time) As a second year apprentice or trainee in painting and decorating, you will learn the following: basic specialist decorative effects, hand tools and their uses, cleaning and maintenance, trade level painting and wallpapering techniques and about the materials that you will use. You will learn how to use portable power tools, how to work safely, the building team and how it works together as a team and how to communicate and work effectively with others. Basic building methods and construction technology also form a part of this course. You will learn how to quantify materials required for the work you will be expected to do and how to safely move and store materials and learn about employment rights and responsibilities. You may also gain a qualification in Information Technology. Start date: September 2010 End date: July 2011 Duration of the course: 36 weeks Entry requirements: Foundation Construction Award/Diploma (level 1) Mode of attendance: Full-time (3 days) or part-time Possible next steps: Level 3 Painting and Decorating courses.
