Key Skills
On most courses you will work towards at least one key skill – usually English, Maths or IT. You will develop these skills through teaching which is related to your main subject. You will also be encouraged to develop information, literacy and research skills.
Feedback and Tutorials For qualification courses, you will have a named course/pastoral tutor and have regular tutorial sessions – some will be as a class and others will be individual. You’ll receive regular feedback regarding your progress, attendance and punctuality. Your tutor will help you to develop your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) where you set yourself targets which help you to achieve your goal of successfully completing your course and progressing to your next step – be it your career or further study.
Linking you to work and/or higher study Our links with major employers and agencies, such as JobCentre Plus, puts you in a strong position to get a great job after your studies. Our Careers and Employment Advisers offer free, confidential and impartial advice and support on education, training and employment opportunities. This team will also provide you with motivational support and help with setting and achieving your career goals.
Learning Resources Service Our Learning Resources Centre provides you with the materials and PC access you need to achieve on your course. The staff work closely with your tutors to ensure that we have the resources you need. We also have a number of open access IT areas across the campus. You can book your slot and complete your work, away from the distractions you may have at home.
It’s your College!
Student Activities Groups of students, or staff and students, can bid for funds to subsidise activities. We have a dedicated enrichment team who will organise a range of activities eg. sports programmes, trips (Alton Towers, day trips to France) events and much more.
Student Association The Student Association works with College staff to improve every student’s experience.
Student Parliament The Student Parliament is the decision-making body and members represent the views of College students at Governing Body committees and Student Parliament meetings. You can get involved by being elected as a class representative, and if elected as a representative for your curriculum area, you will sit on the Student Parliament.
