ESOL (entry level 1 to level 2) We offer a range of part-time ESOL courses from entry level 1 (beginners) to level 2 (advanced) for adults who speak English as an additional language. All courses develop English language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in a range of contexts, including employment and citizenship. You are entered for the Skills for Life ESOL exams at an appropriate level.
These courses are also suitable for you if you wish to improve your English language skills for daily life and citizenship in the UK. Entry requirements: College interview and initial assessment. Possible next steps: After completing the course, you can progress to higher level ESOL courses, vocational or academic courses or to employment. ESOL Literacy (entry levels 1, 2 and 3) These courses are for adults who speak English as an additional language and have English literacy skills at a beginner level or who are not yet confident with writing skills. While your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills will all be developed on these courses, there is more focus on basic reading and writing. You will take a Skills for Life exam when you are ready. Entry requirements: College interview and assessment. Possible next step: Higher level vocational or literacy courses at the College. ESOL Numeracy (entry level 1 to level 2) On these courses you will improve your skills in maths covering subjects such as measurement, calculation of numbers, money and time and interpretation of data. You will increase your confidence and be prepared to meet the numeracy requirements of other college courses. Entry requirements: College interview and assessment. ESOL Pathway for Classroom Assistants (level 1)
Code: ESOF41577 This course is for people who have level 1 listening and speaking skills and entry 3 writing. You will learn about working in a school setting. You will also work towards an ESOL for Work and a Numeracy qualification. There is also a work placement in a school. Please note you will need to have a CRB check for this (see page 12). Start date: 27 September 2010 End date: 11 June 2011 Duration of the course: 30 weeks Entry requirements: Level 1 in speaking and listening, entry 3 in writing Mode of attendance: Part-time (day) Possible next steps: Care courses within the College.
