Code: SCAF41097 As an Apprentice or trainee, you will learn about hand tools and their uses, cleaning and maintenance and basic bricklaying techniques. You’ll also learn how to use bricklaying tools, how to work safely and about how the building team works together. Additionally you will learn how to communicate and work effectively with others and the basic building methods and construction technology. Study also involves how to quantify materials required for the work you will be expected to do and how to safely move and store materials. You will learn how to estimate and quantify for material requirements, this will be embedded with key skills maths at level 1. Brickwork Construction Diploma (level 1)
Code: SCAF1170 This course provides you with the basics of bricklaying construction and helps to develop your practical experience and knowledge to further pursue a career in brickwork. The course is fundamental to becoming a bricklayer and completion of the course is necessary to progress onto the level 2 Bricklaying Diploma. You will be building garden walls, cavity systems, special bonds and learning about many aspects of how a building site is run and your responsibilities as a tradesperson on site. 100% attendance is required along with high motivation and a positive attitude towards hard work. Start date: 9 September 2010 End date: 1 July 2011 Duration of the course: 36 weeks Entry requirements:There is a College interview and assessment. Diploma in Brickwork (level 3)
Code: SCAF41094 In addition to what you have learned in levels 1 and 2 Diploma, as a third year Apprentice you will learn how to maintain and erect complex structural and non-structural brickwork components. The advanced core units include building methods, information and communication in the industry. The course incorporates continuous assessment and an end-of-year theory and practical test. Start date: 6 September 2010 End date: 2 July 2011 Duration of the course: 36 weeks Entry requirements: Successful completion of Intermediate Construction Award (level 2) or equivalent. Selection is also by College assessment and interview. Ideally you should be in employment. Mode of attendance: Full-time or part-time (day) Possible next steps: Site management or further education in building studies. Approximate tuition fee: £2,391
