Harvard University, which celebrated its 350th anniversary in 1986, is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. Undergraduate studies are taught at Harvard College, which offers a four-year liberal arts program for students seeking their first degree - a bachelor’s in arts or sciences. There are about 650 undergraduates at the College from all 50 states and from countries around the world. Harvard values excellence and diversity in the talents and aspirations of its students, and in the resources and opportunities the College offers them.

ACADEMICS

Harvard offers students everything necessary for a liberal education in virtually every imaginable field. Students take many curricular paths to a Harvard degree. They have more than 40 different concentrations (majors) from which to choose, many with a variety of more focused tracks, and each provides substantive training in a specific academic discipline. It is possible to combine major fields or to devise special concentrations. The sheer number of curricular choices (3500 courses) opens doors for the exploration of widely disparate fields and also for concentration in special areas of interest. Students learn in classrooms and labs from professors who are leading authorities in their fields; all members of Harvard’s large, diverse, and accomplished faculty teach undergraduates. Just as important, Harvard offers its undergraduates the privilege of studying with exceptionally talented and motivated peers from all over the globe.
