2750GNSLEADS TRADE AT MOIRA

olstein NI’s first Show and Sale of the season in September saw quality heifers and young cows sell to a top of 2750gns. Sale leader at 2750gns was Clongowes Windbrook Beatrice who stood honourable mention in the pre-sale show. Consigned by David Buchanan from Happy Holsteins, this March 2012-born heifer sold three weeks fresh and giving 33 litres a day. Purchased as a maiden heifer at the Clongowes dispersal she is out of a VG88 Picston Shottle daughter and sold to Kyle Henry from the Crankey herd based at Jerrettspass, County Down. Harry, Wilson and Wallace Patton from Newtownards claimed the day’s supreme and reserve championship ribbons sponsored by Irwins Feed based at Stilloga Mills, Eglish, County Tyrone. They sold six females from their noted Ards herd to average £1934. Leading the Patton family’s line-up at 2310gns was the reserve champion Ards Dylan Jessica. Sired by Empire this second calver sold four weeks fresh and yielding 41 litres daily. Buyer was Gordon Davis from Dromore, County Tyrone.
Overall champion was the red and white second calver Ards Skipper Trudy which sold for 2040gns to Martin King, Ballymena, County Antrim. Calved four weeks, this polled cow was producing

37 litres of milk a day. She was sired by the homebred Aggravation Lawn Boy P Red son, Ards Skipper Red and is out of a VG dam by Markwell Kite. Next best at 1920gns was Carrowcroft Rock Heather consigned by breeders Geoffrey Patton, Carrowdore, County Down. Sired by the Braedale Pagewire son, Carrowcroft Rock, she is out of a homebred VG87 daughter of Netherside Dynamo. Buying her was Stuart Law from Oatlands Farm, Hillsborough, County Down. Also selling at 1920gns was the Lynncrest Zebra daughter Carrowcroft Zebra Elsa. Her dam Carrowcroft Rock N Roll Elsa VG gave 10,271kgs at 4.5% bf and 3.27% p in her second 305-day lactation. She was also purchased by Stuart Law.
Carrowcroft Rock was also behind the breeding of Carrowcroft Rock Jolee which attracted a bid of 1860gns from Gordon Davis. She is out of a homebred Cogent Loader daughter.
