Making £1980 was the pre-sale champion Stainbank Honeysuckle 18 from Robin Jennings, South Stainley. This Lutz- Brookview Burt daughter is backed by two generations of dams scored EX90 and sold a month fresh giving 31 litres. She was knocked down to J G Williams.


Mr Williams also paid £1860 for the third prize pedigree heifer from Robin Jennings. Stainbank Sunray 415 is by Ladys-Manor Dodge and sold a fortnight calved and giving 30 litres. Averages: £1912, cows £1450 and in-calf heifers £1090 (CCM Auctions).


Beeston Month End Sale


Buyers travelled from Stranraer and Castle Douglas, as well as Mid Wales to Beeston for the Month-End Dairy Sale in August. Leading trade at £2600 was Ventura Jordan Ghost from Craig Fowler, a Gillette Jordan sired heifer that sold through the Western Holstein Club’s Focus Milk Sale. Her dam is the VG85 scored Goldenmist Talent Ghost, one of 10 VG or EX scored dams. She was knocked down to Mosford Farm Ltd, Malpas, for their Weavermoss herd.


Not far behind at £2580 was a heifer from O C Whittaker and Sons Ltd, Knutsford. The homebred heifer Tabley Topshot Morn calved on the 16th of August and was sold giving 30kg daily to B G and M A Elkin, Stone, who purchased 12 animals in the sale. Messrs Whittaker also achieved £2300 for another homebred heifer who was purchased by Messrs J R Thomas, Sarnau, Llanymynech. Four heifers from W A and C G Oakes, Byley, sold through the Focus Milk section of the sale to a top of £2400. This was paid for a Ked Outside Jeeves daughter giving 33kg a day and was purchased by E M Hughes, Criggion Hall, Shrewsbury, who also bought eight animals on the day. Another of his purchases was a heifer from Grantchester Farms that was knocked down at £2350. This Bolivia Allen daughter sold giving 34.6kg daily. The Oakes family also sold Alcar Clara 55th at £2250 to J L and


E M Parker, Haughton, Stafford, who also took home a heifer by Woodmarsh Topshot from Hague Partners at the same price.

at £2200 to Messrs E M Hughes. A smaller selection of cows were on offer, selling to £1880 for J Evans and Sons’ fresh cow Ewloegreen Modesto Bond Inna, who sold giving 33kg to B G and M A Elkin. Averages: One Focus Milk cow £1280, 20 Focus Milk heifers in milk £2018.50 15 in calf heifers £1623.33, six British Friesian Embryos £350 each (Wright Marshall).


Focus Mid-Month Sale peaks at £2900 Although announcements of a drop in milk prices were circulating at point of sale, the enthusiasm of buyers at the September Mid-Month Sale at Beeston weren’t dampened. Trade hit a high of £2900 for the EX90 scored third calver Grantchester Goldwyn Julie 2nd

Harold and Pat Crapper, Derbyshire. Calved six weeks she sold giving 45kg a day to a local Cheshire breeder.


Second top was £2600 for Ingleden Rossiter Jazz from regular consigners Jack and Barclay Taylor, Myddle, Shrewsbury. By Ingleden Rossiter, she sold giving 32kg a day.


Following at £2550 was a homebred heifer from the same home, Burnbrae Hayden Ingrid, while at £2520 was Ingleden Sid Sally. Other heifers from the same home by Million, Classic and Twister traded at £2500.


At the same money was Yatehouse Artie Lili


Red from Richard Atkin, Byley, Middlewich. This member of the Lila Z family sold fresh giving 28kg. Cernant RSVP Regina from Ifan Jones, Llanrhaeadr, also traded at £2500. This second calved daughter of Kamps-Hollow Convcd RSVP gave 8323kg at 4.21%bf and 3.41%p as a heifer and sold giving 42kg.


In-calf heifers sold up to £1800 for a daughter


of Lynncrest Zebra from C Fernihough and Son’s Snowfern herd.


A consignment of maiden heifers from the Radnor herd of R R Jones and Co were at £1200, £1150 and £1100 for daughters of Duplex, Talent and Shottle. The Downing Partnership sold heifer calves from their Wintersell herd to a top of £720 for a daughter of McCormick, with others from the same home making £680 and £640. Averages: 3 Focus Milk cows £2350, 22 Focus Milk heifers £1845, 21 in-calf and served heifers £1313.73, 125 maiden heifers £721.84, 27 heifer calves £473.33. (Wright Marshall).


Steady trade for small Holstein offering at Carlisle The offering at the September Border and Lakeland Club Sale of only 11 Holstein cattle levelled at just over £200 less than last year. First to reach the1950gns mark was the second prize and reserve champion Carhall Sensation Sonia from Stephen Carruthers. Bred by Ian and Mark Mallinson, she was purchased at the Carhall
