RETIRING PRESIDENT JIMMY WILSON

Jimmy Wilson from Tregibby Holsteins refl ects on his year as President

D

uring the past year Jimmy Wilson and his wife Angela have enjoyed hospitality from Clubs across the UK as they travelled to attend various shows and events.

“It has been great to meet up with old friends and make new ones during my time as President. We have certainly seen a lot of the country adding 18,000 miles to our Ford Kuga,” says Jimmy. Some of the highlights of his year included attending the All Britain All Breeds Calf Show for the fi rst time in 20 years. “It was so encouraging to see the effort and enthusiasm the HYB members put in to the Calf Show. They are a credit to the Society and I’m sure with keen young members like them, the future of the industry is safe. “Of course I have to mention the Royal Welsh, as I haven’t missed the show in 51 years and it was a great honour to be there in an offi cial capacity representing the Society this year. The experience this year was made even better by the tremendous show of Holsteins and this refl ected in their success in the interbreed classes.” As he got near the end of his term as President, Jimmy was immensely proud of the success of UK Dairy Day. “The fi rst UK Dairy Day was a fantastic event from every aspect, including the cows on show, the number of trade stands and the atmosphere. The event is what the UK dairy industry has been missing for many years - a National Show to showcase the best of UK genetics.”

Along with many trips to local shows, his trip to the Isle of Man in August for the Royal Manx Show was an enjoyable one for Jimmy. During the winter months he was welcomed to many Club dinners across the country and thoroughly enjoyed meeting and socialising with Holstein enthusiasts and seeing the strength and enthusiasm in the Clubs.

Jimmy has found it particularly interesting fi nding out how things work behind the scenes of Holstein UK at Scotsbridge House. “There has been a lot of change during the past year and the Trustees have had many diffi cult obstacles to deal with, mainly with staff changes, but in my opinion they have been handled it all professionally.

“Although I no longer have any duties on the farm, Angela and I run a Guest House and we’ve been grateful for the 100% support of our family who have allowed everything to run normally while we have enjoyed the past year.

“It has been such a rewarding honour to be President of Holstein UK and an opportunity I am very fortunate to have been able to have. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone I’ve met during the year for making it one I will never forget.”
