ABOVE RIGHT Morningview Mogul Mani (Mogul x Iota x Shottle from the Lead Mae family (see article on Explode)) is one of the highest GTP and genomic lifetime profi t index (GLPI) Mogul daughters in the world.

BELOW Farnear Lite Morning VG85 (Mogul x O Style). Bill Rauen of Farnear Holsteins describes her: “She is the ideal cow that we are trying to breed for today’s dairy farmers. She is average size, has a great udder (scored EX mamm 2yr), super feet and legs and gives oceans of milk.”

THE SIRE: If you haven’t heard about Mountfi eld SSI DCY Mogul yet, you probably haven’t been talking

to anyone who lives in, or has travelled to, America, as it seems he is the bull of the moment. If you are looking to breed solid, cubicle cows with fabulous udders and loads of production, this is the sire for you. There have been comments fl ying around the USA saying Mogul could have the biggest infl uence in the breed since the legendary sire, Round Oak Rag Apple Elevation. Mogul will suit the vast majority of dairy farmers throughout the world due to the type of cow he breeds.

The area he really excels in is his production with 550kg milk. His fi tness traits are very impressive , positive calving ease percentages, a lifespan score of +0.3 and Mogul is a cell count improver at -11. He has a massive Type Merit (TM) score of +3.22, and this is down to his remarkable mammary systems. Rear udders are high and wide, fore udders are well attached with scores of +3.35 and +3.34 respectively. Combine this with a positive chest width score and an average stature score, his daughters are made to milk and last.

He has a unique sire stack, making him an outcross sire, which will appeal to many farmers. As of September 2014, he is the number one selling young sire ever for Se- lect Sires in the USA. And to make him even more special, his sons are dominating the top 50 young genomic sire list.

FAMILY: He traces back to Wesswood-HC Rudy 84 THE JOURNAL DECEMBER 2014
